The wrapping finally came off this morning, and we’re out and about on the road. Our 6 (nearly 7) year old loves this, in spite of the fact that it’s supposed to be for over 8s.

It’s a heavy old beast, meaning that smaller children will require help from an adult to lift it around, but once it’s on level ground, it’s easy enough to balance and get mobile with.

You need to scoot it up to speed before the power will engage, which must throw some customers, considering the number of warnings to this effect that are plastered all over the scooter and the packaging. In fact, the thing seems to be liberally covered with warnings of one kind or another, but most of them just seem to impart common sense.

The low weight limit means that, theoretically, this one’s for the kids only. Lighter adults might not exceed the limit by much, but heavier framed ones probably shouldn’t really take it for a spin. Still, if you happen to be 15 stone plus and decide you can’t resist a short blast, you’ll no doubt find that the frame is sturdy enough for the load, but the motor will struggle on even the slightest uphill gradient.

The only fault/criticism so far is that the spark cartridge kept popping out of its holder. I’ve had to resort to holding it in place with tie wraps around the locating lugs (these will have to be cut off and replaced when putting on a new cartridge.) Other than that, it’s sheer awesomeness. I just wish they’d had these 35 years ago, when I was young enough to be bought one.

If buying as a gift, then try to find an opportunity to charge it overnight before wrapping it. It really needs a good 12 hours before first use, and not having a decent charge rather spoils the first day of fun.
